Rating :  - It doesn't take a psychic to see how brilliant this is!
Rarely - and I mean RARELY - do I review something right away after completing it. Some games you can finish and feel content or frustrated afterwards. Well folks - I'm here to tell you that I like brains. Yes - big juicy brains! Why? No. Not because I'm a zombie. It's because "Psychonauts" is a landmark in game design and storytelling.
Pros:
Design. Breath-taking visuals both beautiful and terrifying. Some of the most elaborate and exquisite level designs ever created. Nothing is dull or unattractive. Every adheres to concept of the game.
Story. One of the most original and captivating game stories I've ever followed. It had me hooked from the beginning and never - NEVER - let me down... To the last frame. It's not only a coherent story but has laugh-out-loud hilarious dialogue and situations.
Talent. Some of the best voice-acting in a game ever produced. Truly gifted actors give so much life to these wonderful characters (and there are a lot of characters).
Control. Excellent handling with the keyboard and mouse. Everything is customizable and there are just enough commands for easy game-play.
Music. Fantastic writing and composing. The music is elegant, tragic, exciting and fun. Not a note wasted. Brilliant.
Abilities and psychic weaponry. Such an imaginative array of powers. Every one serves a purpose and some players may use others according to their preferred approach to situations and characters.
There are also a lot of side games, hunts and goodies to buy.
HUD, menus and hints. Excellent display. The HUD has a toggle function that works great. The menu is well displayed and clean causing no confusion except for the opening menu which is kind of off-putting at times. There are hints WHEN YOU WANT THEM in tough situations. Mmm... "bacon"...

CONS:
Camera. This almost ruined the game for me at times. I realize that any game that uses auto-cameras isn't perfect and this surely isn't the exception. A few times I would simply get lost or the camera would be blocked by scenery in the foreground.
Graphics. Given that this game came out less than 5 years ago you'd think they'd clean up the corners and also have better drawing distance but many of the backgrounds are dim or the characters look pixelated at times. The lighting effects looked average. There are little to no effects/video options.
Glitches. With all patches automatically installed via Steam this crashed more times than it should have given my powerful PC (2.8 Quad core + 1GB NVidia video card + 4GB RAM) and XP OS. It also didn't like Alt+Tab very much either.

Conclusion: Very, very, very few games reach the awe-inspiring imagination and originality that "Psychonauts" doess. It's exciting, action-packed, rip-roaring funny and beautiful to look at. It's a true gem of a game that any gamer (of any type of gaming) should own and play.
